Think ... Frankenstein

A headline today on AOL -  'Frankenstorm' Predicted to Slam East Coast
"Both private and federal meteorologists are calling this a storm that will likely go down in the history books," Associated Press. If you saw the movie Perfect Storm, you'll have a idea of the magnitude.

A hurricane, plus snow on the East Coast in a weeks' time … it's gonna get ugly.

And it's going to hit right around Halloween during a full moon--spooky?

What does all this mean? Every year it seems more and more disasters are ravaging the world. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, famines, fires, floods. Is it just a fluke, a happenstance of nature?

Many try to pass it off as such, including some Christians. But scripture teaches otherwise. These are more than just natural occurrences. God knew all about these tragedies beforehand. He predicted them. Don't believe me? Let's take a look at Matthew 24:2-8.

"As he [Jesus] sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately saying, 'Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age? And Jesus answered them, 'See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of birth pains.'"

The beginning of birth pains?

That means it's going to get worse.

"Various places" as used in the King James is "divers places". The meaning is derived from sundry; many, legion, multifarious, multitudinal, multitudinous, numerous, populous, etc.

I'm a California girl, born and raised. My husband, son and I, moved to Northern California in 1984. Would you believe we had tornado warnings this week? A couple touched down. My friend Beth's home, down the hill from us, had damage to their yard, fence, and the dismantling of her husband's bar-b-q. Marysville had extensive damage.

When I was growing up, never did you hear of tornadoes in California!

Matthew 24: 6 stands out. Jesus said, "See that you are not alarmed":  worried, troubled, anxious, upset, distressed, shocked. In our flesh that's impossible. The only way to keep fear at bay is to put our trust in Jesus. Fear after all, is from the devil, the father of lies.

God loves us with an everlasting love. In the course of these destructive Frankenstein-like days, look up, and know that nothing will touch you apart from His will. Yet, not unlike with His chosen people Israel, throughout history, destruction always followed disobedience. Our nation has hardened it's heart and God will allow whatever it takes to draw us back to Himself.

ll Chronicles 7:14 - "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

1 Thessalonians 5:16-21 - "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good." All scripture taken from the ESV.

Father, thank you for your perfect love, for sending Jesus, the Prince of Peace, to die for our sins so that we might have fellowship with you. Comfort and strengthen us in these days of turmoil, convict us of sin, that we repent and hold fast to our faith, in Jesus name, amen.

Love & Blessings,

Danie Marie
