Unforgettable

The day started out fine. I drove to a craft store to find just the right yarn to make a slouch beanie for myself in a lighter weight than I'd used for the one I made for my daughter-in-love for Christmas. The yarn I used for hers was too thick, but it'll keep her warm when she and my son go camping or on cold blustery days.

Walking through a craft store perusing various weights and colors of yarn, Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable, Tidal, its variegated colors in shades of aqua, teal and grayish blue, stopped me. I pulled a skein from the bin, squishing and rubbing its silky softness. This time the yarn was too light a weight, but I figured it'd just be a more open weave when finished. I purchased two skeins and drove home excited to start on my project.

 Did I just say "project"?

The directions for knitting said beanie on the loom required two strands of yarn, one end from the outside of the skein and the other from the middle. It worked great before…

Not with Unforgettable. The inside ends would not come out of hiding. So, I decided to use one end from each skein.

Problem solved.

Don't I wish. The silky softness of said yarn is limp as a noodle. Both skeins unraveled in a tangled mass.

I'd knit a little, untangle, knit a little… You get the picture. Until, it became so tangled and knotted I had to stop knitting altogether. Arrrrg!

Lesson learned? Take time to wind each skein into a ball before starting a project.

My sweet husband purchased a yarn winder for me, but you still have to untangle before you can wind. He's been helping untangle the mess, and the other night, asked, "How much did this yarn cost?" It wasn't the cheap stuff. "Is it worth all the time you're spending unraveling it?" Imagining the finished product, I kept at it.

Today while tediously working with what now looks like a mass of spaghetti strewn everywhere, the Lord revealed that at times I'm like that yarn. I can be stubborn and unyielding, and yet, He patiently works out the kinks and smoothes the way. He pulls and tugs, persevering until I yield to Him.

He works with the mess we are to create a thing of beauty He can use for His purposes. Glory to God!

This has been an unforgettable experience. Who'da thunk a lesson could be learned from a couple skeins of yarn.

God did…

Are you struggling to untangle a mess in your life? Let the Master work out the kinks.

And if you need a friend to pray for you, let me know, I'd be more than happy.

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trails of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing," James 1:2-4.

Lord of Heaven and earth, when all looks dismal and hopeless through our clouded lens, help us remember that You, oh Lord, are the God of hope. Help us yield to you so that you can create in us a thing of beauty, to your glory. Amen.

Love & Blessings,
Danie Marie

  3. A great analogy of life and yarn.
God takes time to untangle us when we ask Him.

    Write on.
