Manna in the Desert

God gave the Israelites manna in the wilderness—a tangible miracle. Moses instructed the people only to gather enough for that day according to God’s directive. And they had enough. But the people did not trust Moses, nor did they trust God. They tried to hoard the manna.

They disbelieved that God would continually provide for their needs. Even after all the miracles they had witnessed in Egypt, His leading them out of bondage, and the waters parting so they could pass to the other side.

The manna spoiled.

It became worm infested and it stank.

How easy it would be to look down on the Israelites, but aren’t we like that too?

Do we really believe that our God is the God of enough, enough to meet our daily needs? Do we recognize the manna He gives us today?—peace and rest as we trust in Him?

Just as the Israelites gathered manna each day, we too, must gather courage and strength as we feed upon the Word of God for spiritual sustenance. He meets all our needs according to His riches in glory. He tells us not to worry about tomorrow. But we worry. Why?

Is it our lack of trust?

Php 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
Php 4:7 And the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

He provides exactly what we need each day, no more, no less.

Php 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

If we don’t have it’s because we haven’t asked. Let’s ask, friends, so that we will have an abundance from God’s storehouse, more than enough to meet our daily needs.

What is the manna you hunger for today? Let me know how I can pray for you. :)

Lord, we thank you for meeting our daily needs. Give us grateful hearts as we seek you and your provision in our lives. May we never take for granted all that you have blessed us with: a roof over our head, clean water to drink and bathe in, food on our table, friends who pray for us, freedom to worship here in the U.S., for the gift of your creation, we thank you! Thank you for each new day that we awaken in your presence. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

Love & Blessings,
Danie

  1. Thanks for the comment on my blog. I like your post. You can pray that I am grateful everyday for all that God provides for me. Because he always provides more than I need. God Bless you and good luck with your book, I pray it gets published.

  2. I'm thinking about some words I wrote on this very subject about a year ago... about never "taking more than I need." Oh to keep to daily grace instead of hoarding God's goodness. The daily manna I'm asking him for in this season is a daily portion of peace and contentment. Oh, and enough energy to get back to living! Today has been one of those days for me, and I am thankful.

Blessings to you for a welcome Sabbath rest!
