A Little Salt Goes a Long Way

We find salt in most everything we eat, without it food tastes flat. Used in small amounts it brings out the flavor. The difference with and without is significant. Too much will make us gag.

Viewing the Truth of God’s Word in the same way, doesn’t it makes sense to delve it out in small amounts? People are usually more receptive when we do. As we scatter grains of Truth the Holy Spirit works behind the scenes to add Christ’s perfect, pleasing blend. A blend that’s easy on the palate, full of love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness.

If we try to force feed Truth on those we come in contact, we’ll make them gag, a difficult mess to clean up. We may turn them off from trying more of what we have to offer when they're hungry. If we’ve grown up under legalism, we really have to watch how we witness. No matter what kind of family we grew up in, some of their idiosyncrasies may linger in our mannerisms.

As the salt of the earth we want people to crave the Word of God and see that He is good.

Matthew 5:12: “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.” NIV
